Welcome To The Unicorn Support Network!

The Unicorn Support Network is a place where people with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders can get advice and support. People with schizophrenia often feel marginalized and isolated because of their condition, largely because of unfair portrayals of schizophrenia in the media. But humans are inherently social, and that isolation often worsens the symptoms of schizophrenia. We believe there is a way to stop that vicious cycle of isolation and improve quality of life.

Friendship is our secret ingredient.

Unicorns are how we refer to individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders on this site. It’s an effort to rebrand schizophrenia in a more positive light. Unicorns in popular culture are majestic and powerful and universally loved. We are taking those positive sentiments and using them to reclaim the dignity of people with schizophrenia or its related disorders. It’s a metaphor we use to empower people and work with their quirks instead of defining them solely in terms of their condition.

If you are a unicorn, our primary goal is to be your friend. Lots of businesses brag about being friendly, but that’s just a shadow of what we aim for. We want to forge real and long-lasting friendships that also dispense practical life advice. Our volunteers want to understand you as a whole person, to remember your triumphs, and to laugh and cry with you.

We’re not therapists, but we listen like them. Being able to talk to someone on your own terms without fear of rejection is a powerful resource, and we hope you’ll take us up on the offer. You are not alone, no matter what you’re dealing with.

We are people like you, and we strive to provide broad advice that works in harmony with existing advice provided by your doctor.

Be majestic. Be powerful. Come join our herd!
